Emily Franland scored early to lead the WWU Women to a 1-0 over Simon Fraser University.  This improves the Vikings to 5-2 in conference play as they continue to leapfrog the standings winning 5 of their last 6.  The goal came after a period of pressure, with seemingly endless shots and corners.  “We asked them to get off to a quick start, to apply a lot of pressure,” said Western coach Travis Connell. “It paid off in a goal, and that ended up being the winning goal.”

Frankland earned her team high 5th goal of the year off a Justina MacDowell pass. Western had a 15-0 shot advantage in the first half and a 27-2 margin for the game. Simon Fraser didn’t have a shot until the final 15 minutes.

WWU Keeper Jamie Arthurs continues to make her case for MVP, or GNAC Keeper of the year (not sure if either of these are real) with her 6th shutout of the season.

The Vikings do not compete again until Thursday, Oct. 13 (4 p.m.), when they travel to Central Washington for a GNAC counter.
